Survivor Series History

An annual professional wrestling (PPV) event called Survivor Series is held in November by WWE. It is the 2nd longest running pay-per-view event organized by WWE and one of the Big Four events, along with Royal Rumble, Wrestle Mania, and Summer Slam, all these four pay-per-views event are produced by WWE. The first Survivor Series, organized in 1987, and it came on the heels of the success of Wrestle Mania III, then-WWF began to see the profitable possible of the pay-per-view market. The first event capitalized on the big time dispute between Hulk Hogan and André the Giant, who had fought with each other at Wrestle Mania III.

The event is usually characterized by having tag-team elimination matches, generally fighting teams of four or five wrestlers in contrast to each other. These matches are usually stated to simply as “Survivor Series matches”. Earlier in 1987 the WWF had numerous elimination tag-team matches, even though with three-man teams and the quarrels loosely related.

Survivor Series (2016)

Professional wrestling pay-per-view event and WWE Network event  called Survivor Series (2016) is an upcoming  and produced by WWE for the Raw and Smack Down brands. Survivor Series (2016) will take place on 20, November 2016 at the Air Canada Centre in Canada. It will be the 30th event under the Survivor Series sequence of events. After the notorious Montreal Screwjob controversy took place since 1997 ,this will be the first time that Survivor Series will take place in Canada. The event will mark the in-ring return of Goldberg.

Goldberg has not wrestled for the WWE in over 12 years. The event is the first in the Survivor Series sequence of events to be four hours in length, a length kept for Wrestle Mania and Summer Slam.

Background For Matches

On the October 11 episode of SmackDown, General Manager Daniel Bryan  & Commissioner Shane McMahon  dared Raw to three traditional Survivor Series elimination tag team matches .which containing each brand’s best five female wrestlers, best five male wrestlers, and best five tag teams, respectively. Raw Commissioner Stephanie McMahon accepted the dare. On the October 25 episode of SmackDown, succeeding matches started to decide which wrestlers would represent Team SmackDown.

SmackDown Tag Team Champions Slater Heath  and Rhyno were automatically made captain for the tag team Survivor Series match. They qualified by beating The Ascension. Later, Nikki Bella beaten Natalya to become captain of the women’s team. On the October 31 episode of Raw, after weeks of uttering that they should be co-captains of the male team, WWE Universal Champion Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens were made part of Team Raw by General Manager Mick Foley, who then also added WWE United States Champion Roman Reigns to the team. Braun Strowman was then added by winning a 12-man battle royal.

Later, Raw Tag Team Champions The New Day exposed that they were made captain for the tag team Survivor Series match. Raw Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair then exposed that she was made captain of the women’s team, and that Nia Jax and Bayley would be on her team. Charlotte then made Bayley face Nia in a losing effort.

The next night on SmackDown, Shane and Bryan added, Carmella Naomi,  Alexa Bliss and SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch to the women’s team and hired Natalya as their trainer. During the show, The Usos  and American Alpha both qualified for the tag team Survivor Series match by beating The Headbangers, and The Spirit Squad respectively.

On Miz TV, Bryan exposed all participants of SmackDown’s male team Bray Wyatt, Baron Corbin, Dean Ambrose, Randy Orton,, and WWE World Champion AJ Styles. In 2004 at WrestleMania XX Goldberg beaten Brock Lesnar. At No Mercy, Dolph Ziggler beaten The Miz in a career vs. title match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship.  On the November 1 episode of SmackDown, after effectively defending the Intercontinental Championship against Curt Hawkins, Ziggler made an open dare to any wrestler from the Raw brand to fight against him for the title at Survivor Series.
